Headingley Carnegie Cricket Ground, Leeds, United Kingdom

Will Alsop’s new cricket ground design revealed
The first images of a design by Will Alsop for the Headingley Carnegie cricket ground in England have been unveiled as the design is submitted by Yorkshire County Cricket Club and Leeds Metropolitan University for planning permission.

Alsop has designed the 4000 sq m cricket pavilion to replace the existing grounds and create an educational working space for Leeds Met University. During the summer period, the proposal will operate mainly as a cricket pavilion and media centre, whilst during the academic year, the proposed development will operate mainly as a University teaching faculty, allowing students access to ‘real world’ modern media facilities, sporting, hospitality and event management experiences.

The pavilion will provide accommodation for a mix of uses on five floors in hospitality suites, upgraded changing rooms, treatment rooms and spectator seating. Alsop’s interpretation of the requirements will enhance daylighting and privacy of the adjacent residential buildings and connect the green spaces around the pavilion with the locality.

Should approval be granted for this design the project will begin later this year and is expected to be completed in 2010
