beijing terminal 3 completed ahead of schedule

the pressure is on in beijing. construction crews are working non-stop to try and complete the numerous
ambitious architectural projects currently being built for this summer's 2008 olympic games (like here & here).
with only a few months remaining, the new terminal 3 at beijing capital international airport design by
foster+partners has been completed ahead of schedule.

the new terminal will be the entry point for most of the future visitors and athletes. the building covers 1.3 million
square metres, the first building's to ever break the one million square metre barrier. despite its massive scale,
special focus was payed to making it easily navigable. the buildings design is characterized by its gently curved
roof line, which is pierced with scale-like skylights, evoking the traditional chinese symbol of the dragon.

this new terminal is the largest and most advanced airport building in the world – a celebration of the thrill
and poetry of flight. a gateway to beijing, it communicates a unique sense of place, its dragonlike form evoking
traditional chinese colours and symbols.
